Top 2015 Informatics and Computer Science student gets Admission into Georgia Tech

Anne Chepkeitany, Informatics and Computer Science top student year 2015, received admission to the top prestigious Georgia Tech – located in Atlanta Georgia, USA. She is set to study a Masters in Computer Science. Coming from a background of maintaining a 1st class throughout her four years of undergraduate study, Anne affirms that managing time was the only way and will be the only way she will manage to stay at the top.

Although she did not intend to study informatics, her Diploma in Business Information Technology (DBIT) course, introduced her to the core of programming which she enjoys more than she thought she would.

I come from a background of loving math, a factor that enabled me to enjoy programming because the two courses go hand in hand. Funny enough, my first time to use a computer was at Strathmore University when I joined the DBIT programme.

Since graduation, Anne has worked for two companies; ONA company which deals with data collection and where she worked right after finishing university, and Jumo – a financial technology company where she currently works. She has been working as a software engineer, on both front and back ends.

Through this software engineer path, Anne was challenged to study a masters in a bid to perfect her knowledge learnt from undergraduate. She specifically wants to advance her knowledge in the Data and Machine Learning field. From her work at ONA which exposed her to a lot of data, she desires to find out what more can be done with collected data in an effort to visualize it further. A field she enjoys as it taps into both mathematics and programming, marrying her interest in the field.

Anne’s admission to Georgia Tech – ranked number 9 as one of the best schools in Computer Science globally, is an exciting offer. She was previously rejected in 5 top universities, a factor that could have demotivated her application process, but it did not and she kept pushing on. She is set to start university at the end of August beginning of September this year.

Anne has already started reading on Machine Learning in an effort to give her a head start in the field before she starts school.

My motivation to perfect my learning stems from the fact that I love academia to start with, and the fact that studying a masters is a boost to my career path. Studying a Masters is an entry level to top companies I have always desired to work for. I am also driven by my family – being a 1st born child means my younger siblings are always looking up to me. I therefore do not want to let them down. Also, I am a mother of one daughter and I would want to give her the best life has to offer. Though I will not travel to Georgia with my husband and child, I still wish to make them proud.

Congratulations to Anne on this great success.
